Neskowin, Oregon
December, 2024
80% of the time spent in Neskowin, Oregon was within 15 feet of this photo.
It was a refreshing sight to see the Pacific Ocean again, banging angrily against the rocks. The snow was left behind about fifty miles or so south and to the east. We had wanted to stay at a place in Pacific City, but lack of options made the circle of search larger. This is usually looked at as a problem. One gets desperate, a little sweaty, and then the regretted clicks happen.
Still within 15 feet.
This was not the problem when I saw Eagle’s View. I couldn’t book it fast enough. The price was shockingly acceptable at about 200-250 a night. For 1 bed this would be steep, but no, this place could sleep 7 at least! Three big bedrooms. Three bathrooms. Multiple levels of awesome porch directly overlooking some of the best views eyeballs can encounter. Hot tub on one of the porches. There are two full kitchens. The place is set up so that you don’t have to leave the place. You won’t want to leave the place.
The first day we were in Eagle’s View, we decided to keep a low profile, stay near the hot tub, look at the power of the sea crashing into the beach, and when the clouds cleared for long enough, enjoy the stars and the moon.
Located sixteen minutes drive south of Pacific City, Oregon, it is an easy ride into town for activities. We chose to drive an hour south to Newport for the Oregon Coast Aquarium because Some Gal was all about it and we got up early and the sun was shining perfectly. Yeah, it ended up being a perfect day full of watching male seahorses pretend to give birth, and letting jellyfish make me feel like I am tripping on shrooms. There is also a series of tunnels walking underneath sharks! Awesome!
We hit up a series of thrift stores and antique shops that are dotted along the roads along the way back north. Stopping at a local grocery market in Newport, we wanted to lock ourselves in for the remainder of the stay at Eagle’s View. Like I said, once you step inside, you’ll not want to leave. We loaded up on NA beer, beer, cheeses, meats, healthy stuff that Some Gal was wanting us to try that ended up being delicious.
It was time to relax in the hot tub and wait for sunset with herbal enhancers and a couple of beverages. The day was a win. The stay was a win. Waking up in the morning, I looked up to see if Eagle’s View had more days to rent out. They had been booked. The two nights went by as fast as this read has. We had to boogie, but we didn’t boogie far.
I had gone on an “adventure” in search of perfect coffee for Some Gal; try to be sweet or something in the morning. What I found was something different. I pulled into the resort and walked into the lobby. They did have rooms available, and at seven in the morning they checked me in on the spot for the next two nights. It was beautiful! It was time to travel 32 minutes south.
It was getting to be “that” time. The end of the line. Between this day and one of the few coming up, there was going to be a “talk”. A first date cannot last forever. The clock was ticking on my end, for I had to be in Southern Florida before Christmas. I had to be in central Florida before that, or I would be facing a firing squad full of my own family.
Deals with devils would have been made if there were a way to slow time to a slug’s slowest crawl. I had figured these next few days would be it. “Don’t get attached”, became a common mantra. “Keep a perfect month as something special forever,” was another. So yeah, when I saw a cool resort, I had to pull the trigger. Stall tactic? I’m okay with it.
