Escape to Sisters

Sisters, Oregon

art work in sisters oregon

Fancy artwork on display while walking down the streets of Sisters, Oregon

Tormented by weather related cancellations to stays at cool destinations, we had to act fast. The cottage was gone, possible flooding and road closures had cemented our fate with hot springs and riverside lodging. South looked desolate, east was the wrong way, so we went north.

We had stopped in Sisters, Oregon on the way to bend. It is a beautiful “Old-West” style town. The gateway to the Cascades, it is not a large town by any means. Tourist town with eateries, coffee shops, antique stores, and most importantly plenty of lodging.

We had a wounded warrior in our party to make matters a little more strained. Some Gal had not been feeling like herself, so I wanted a cozy place where she could rest and recover in a timely manner. Looking back, it was probably the allergies. The air will make you go crazy here with all the pollen. It is much worse the further inland you go. Do not forget to bring your allergy meds to this part of the country. More importantly, do not forget to take your allergy meds when you’re in this part of the country.

I was looking for comfort. I was looking for warmth. I was looking for vacancy. I found the Five Pine Lodge in Sisters, Oregon. They have rooms in a main lodge building and several cabins throughout the sprawling and beautiful property. We went with a cabin for privacy’s sake. Everything in SIsters is on the expensive end. Not back-breaking costly, but more than if you’re at just some small town in the middle of nowhere. For 250 a night (lack of options in town, went higher instead of lower), you got a full living room, fire place, king size bed, kitchen. It was a really nice cabin. Cozy was accomplished.

Our first stop in SIsters was Suttle Tea. We needed to get some loose leaf so that Some Gal could expedite her recovery time. Subtle Tea offers everything tea related. I am by no means an expert, and have not graduated past the “stick figure drawing” stages of tea knowledge. It was cool watching people work with a little scooper and actually weigh out tea and herbs. I felt like I was in a witch’s shop and we were characters in a story. I had been eating dessert all day. I was in a good place.

We pull into Five Pine Lodge. Beautiful facility, but kind of intimidating. Check in, fumble around a bit, the staff was super cool and nice. Boom! We made it, now we can rest. The room, as advertised, did not disappoint in the slightest. Everything was very nice. As well, which was not known at the time of booking, they had an adjoining brewery. Five Pine Lodge went from being a 3rd and long broken play into a chunk yardage play. Hell yeah!

I walked into 3 Creeks Brewery, located just a two minute walk from our cabin, with instructions to order food and bring it back to the room. The ordering process took me two beers. I returned, we ate, and Some Gal fell fast asleep.

Post cards from Five Pines Lodge. Make for excellent scrapbook material.

Not wanting to be a bad person by being loud, breathing too heavily, or otherwise taking up unnecessary space, I decided it would be best to head back to 3 Creeks. The staff was tremendously friendly and fast. Good food, and their beer is top notch and has won many awards nationally in competition.

They close too early! I wanted another beer. There was talk of a park that ran all the way to town. It was only 7:30, not a problem, I thought.  Was incorrect. There was no lighting, no clear path. I figured twenty minutes tops. It was much longer once the directions started getting skewed. I’m a Florida Man, what do you think my feet were wearing?

I found a gas station. I had gone the wrong way at some point. It was about 8:20 then. Instead of asking for directions, I opted for a six pack of beer. I felt…navigational. I eventually made it back to Five Pine Lodge some time around 9:30 with 2 beers remaining and very cold feet.

The next day, we enjoyed Oregon’s most romantic getaway, which Five Pines Lodge proudly presents. It is. If you want to book their spa package, or anything spa related, book well in advance. I had no shot of getting Some Gal in, even with bribes offered.

It was time to get back to the water though. This area, beautiful as it may be, was cold and yet still causing serious allergy attacks on me. We loaded the car, peaced out of Five Pines, and headed west towards the water. Next stop: Neskowin, California.
